About institution
In 1952, a junior music school was founded in Kanjiža, but due to financial problems, it stopped working in 1955. Since 1961, and until 1974, music education had been conducted within the Radnički univerzitet, in the form of a course, when Primary Music School - became part of the Self-Governing Common-Interest Community for Education and Culture. Since 1 October 1978, after "Muzički centar" was certified, it started working independently in Kanjiža and Horgoš, as a unit within the Cultural and Educational Centre.
Since 1 September 2001, the Primary Music School has become an independent institution. At this school, teaching is conducted bilingually (in the Serbian and Hungarian languages).
The number of pupils in the school year 2015/2016 was 262, and the number of employees was 27.
The school departments are as follows: piano, accordion, violin, violoncello, flute, clarinet, guitar and solo singing. There is a music kindergarten, preparatory classes, and as a regular classes there are chamber ensembles, an accordion orchestra and a choir. All pupils also attend solfeggio and theory classes, as stipulated in the curriculum.
In the school year 2021/2022, there were 210 pupils studying instruments, and the number of employees was 29 (increased as compared to 27, due to the fact that two employees are on maternity leave).
