The "Sava Šumanović” Grammar School in Šid was established in 1951 as a general mixed Grammar school. Over time, the school went through numerous reforms and changed its name several times until it got its current name - "Sava Šumanović” Grammar School
The “Sava Šumanović” Grammar School is a school offering a general educational programme including one class of social and linguistic studies and one class of economic studies in each generation. Every year about 190 students enrol in this school. The teaching is carried out during one shift in the Serbian language. The school provides its students comprehensive education with the aim of forming a mature individual.
The school is proud of the successful participation of students in various extracurricular activities and competitions. They receive a good foundation for further education. Many students have acquired academic titles, and become notable experts in different field of work, university professors home and abroad. The school gives special contribution to the cultural and public life of our municipality.

Currently, the "Sava Šumanović” Grammar School in Šid has about 400 students. There are three classes of the grammar school’s general programme and one class of the economic technician programme for each grade, i.e. a total of 16 classes.

The composition of students is very good and more than satisfactory, because the first grade enrols over 50% of excellent primary school graduates. That percentage is almost the same with our high school graduates who graduate with great success.

As many as 90% of grammar school graduates enrol in the desired faculties, and a larger number of them enrol in studies funded by the state.

The school employs over 50 workers, of which 40 are the teaching staff.

The school is satisfactorily equipped - 12 general purpose classrooms, 2 IT classrooms and specific subject classrooms for physics, chemistry, biology, a gym.

The grammar school has achieved notable results in its work, both in teaching and extracurricular activities. Students participate in various competitions in almost all subjects, and often reach the state competition where they achieve notable results.

The school library is extremely well equipped with over 20,000 titles.

The school also offers optional Slovak and Rusyn languages, and students are given the opportunity to join various school clubs, such as philology, journalism, recitation, sports, ecology and many others.
